Cardi B throws microphone at fan who hurled a drink at her during concert

The current uptick in concert-goers hurling objects at musicians is one of the more mind-blowingly foolish phenomena in a time full of them.

Bebe Rexha was nearly struck by a fan's flying object just a few weeks ago.In New York, a cellphone was thrown at the victim's head; in Vienna, Harry Styles was struck by an unknown projectile; and in Germany, Latto said, "Want your ass beat?" in response to a similar blow.

Cardi B demonstrated on Saturday in Las Vegas that she is not someone to mess with. The rapper was performing at Drai's Beachclub when a member of the crowd tossed a drink at her as she sang her 2017 breakthrough song, "Bodak Yellow."

Within a split second, Cardi B responded by flinging her microphone towards the disrespectful "fan." The guy is seen being led away by security in the footage. Cardi appears to have fled the stage after yelling at the offender with some very vulgar remarks.

This is not a new phenomenon; in the 1970s, concertgoers frequently set off firecrackers and M-80s, one of which severely injured Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page's right hand. In 2004, a fan threw a stick of a lollipop at David Bowie, which lodged in his eye and caused the usually cool performer to react angrily and profanely. (Always the professional, he continued playing for another two hours after a few minutes, noting that "Now we'll have to do an even longer show").
However, the current craze appears to be more about people seeking to draw attention to themselves, albeit it's not apparent why.
The 27-year-old man who threw his phone at Bebe Rexha apparently thought "it would be funny," according to a criminal complaint that was filed after his arrest on misdemeanor charges of harassment and assault.
However, this is nowhere near enough punishment for someone who does something that dangerously stupid.
