Give us honeymoon period to put things in place if we win – Mahama

In the event that he is successful in regaining power, former president John Mahama is pleading with Ghanaians, especially labor and trade associations, to give him a grace period.

This suggestion is made in response to these groups' growing demand for better service conditions.

Speaking to guests at a Hohoe "Campus Connect" event, the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emphasized the need to give the economy some time to recover before addressing particular concerns.

And you'll see how detrimental the NPP government has been to Ghana's economy. This nation is bankrupt, therefore we humbly ask that you grant us a brief honeymoon when we take office so that we can put the necessary measures in place and revive the economy."

Mahama underlined that in light of the difficulties facing the struggling economy, his party is being cautious when making pledges for the 2024 election.

"And since I know that everyone is begging for allowances, I will make a petition to the teachers union, GNAT, NAGRAT, UTAG, and TEWU. I would like to warn you that when we take control in 2025, we will reveal you this nation's records and finances."

Speaking at the Volta during his "Building Ghana" tour, Mr. Mahama promised that his campaign would refrain from making outlandish promises prior to the 2024 election.

"And once we've accomplished that, we can once more give in to your demands. For this reason, I'm being extremely cautious with the commitments I make, as we are all aware of the dire circumstances this nation finds itself in."
