Driver knocks down police officer on duty at Akwanserem barrier

In the Ashanti region's Adansi Asokwa district, a driver has been taken into custody after running over a police officer who was on duty at the Akwanserem police barrier.

From Adansi Asokwa to New Edubiase, the suspect, Adams Fuseini Barro, was operating a Mitsubishi Pajero with registration number GT 7116-P.

The fast driver ignored the police's signal to halt when they reached the Adansi Akwanserem police barrier.

In his attempt to escape, he ran over G/Const. Theophilus Amissah Arthur, a police officer, and then struck a stationary Matiz cab with registration number AC 337-20, injuring the occupants.

For medical assistance, Constable Amissah Arthur and the other passengers were hurried to the Fomena district hospital.

The motorist was taken into jail and is being held at the Fomena district police headquarters.
