Akua Donkor, the Ghana Freedom Party's presidential candidate, has died, according to a family source.According to the family source, she passed away on Monday night at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.
She first reported at the Nsawam Government Hospital in the Eastern Region with respiratory difficulties.
She was referred to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) in Accra.
According to reports, she arrived at Ridge at around 7 p.m. on Monday and left around 10 p.m.
During an Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra two weeks ago, Madam Akua Donkor was in person and attracted notice for voicing her displeasure with what she described as disparaging remarks on her qualifications as an Election 2024 candidate.Considering that she was not educated in a classroom, she was especially unhappy with what she claimed were constant disparaging comments regarding her suitability as a presidential candidate.
The GFP was established by Madam Akua Donkor in 2011 and registered in 2012.
This came after she made multiple unsuccessful attempts to get elected as an Assembly member in her home province of Kwabre in the Ashanti Region.
She ran against the late Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, a former Ashanti Regional Minister and former Judicial Secretary, in the 2004 election for a seat in Kwabre East, Ashanti Region.
Determined to advance her political career after two failed elections, she entered the presidential campaign and founded the GFP in 2011.
She has been attending all of the IPAC meetings and filed to run for president in 2024 on the GFP ticket.
Following her death, it is now anticipated that her running companion, Kwabena Agyeman Appiah Kubi, also referred to as Roman Fada in the media, will take over.
